You ever hear about news or things that happened over a year ago and you’re just hearing about it for the first time? Well for journalist and writers it’s always about fresh content, more like world events or the stock market. These things are happening now. So how one Goolger would put it, “different types of searches have a different need for freshness.”
Certainly if you could only imagine the world of technology and how it has grown, what we discuss about 10 years ago may be in text books. Now schools are utilizing ipads and laptops into their daily curriculum to understand more about the world. So what search engines perform is a type of search query. They will use both fresh and old content in a mix placing the search in a hierarchy.
So while you’re brainstorming about your industry here is some idea about fresh content and the searches that need to change.
Recent or current events: “President signs a peace deal,” “stock market tumbles more than 10%.”
Regular types of events: “Sports, shows, stocks as well.”
Frequently updated: “Best of … cameras, food, markets, cars etc…”
So if you could imagine the industry of technology or the news users want to know about it as up-to-date as possible. On a scale if an article was written and considered fresh or up-to-date it will only be as up-to-date as the minute you’ve posted it. When it comes to larger companies or individuals with the time an article may still be considered fresh if there is a large amount of change. Change is good. Think about the following:
How often do things change in your business
How often do you need to update others about this change
Are you able to frequently provide changes necessary
Here are some things you can do if you want to drive more traffic:
Add 20-30% new pages to your website a year. 10 pages? Add 2
Refresh some old pages with new verbiage
Determine what needs to go and how to stay relevant
